Works-in-Progress sessions: Poetry

​An online series for Goddard MFA-W poetry alumni

Beginning September 2026, the CWC poetry community will gather online on the second Tuesday of each month for a renewed Works-in-Progress series designed to support both poetry readings and poem‑centered discussions of new work.

We’ll alternate formats each month so poets can share finished work, test new drafts, and stay connected to the creative pulse of our community.

Month One: Poetry Reading
A space for alumni to read finished or in‑progress poems in a supportive, craft‑minded environment. This evening is ideal for sharing new work, practicing delivery, or simply reconnecting with the voices of fellow alumni.

• Five poets per session, first‑come, first‑served
• Readers may choose a 10‑minute or 15‑minute slot
• Open to any style, any stage of work
• Sign‑up link will be sent one week before each Poetry Reading session

Month Two: Commentary Session
A focused workshop‑style gathering where poets present one poem for group response. These sessions are designed for poets seeking thoughtful, collegial feedback on a single piece.

• Four poets per session, first‑come, first‑served
• Each poet presents one poem
• Followed by a 15‑minute discussion led by the group
• Emphasis on exploring gifts of the poem, where the poem may confuse or stop readers, craft choices, and possibilities for revision, etc. 

Alternating format:
This alternating structure ensures space for both performance and deep craft conversation.

• Month A (September 8): Poetry Reading
• Month B (October 13): Commentary Session
• Month A (November 10): Poetry Reading
• Month B: (December 8): Commentary Session …and so on.

Sign‑Up Information
Sign‑ups for each month’s event will open one week prior and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Links to the sign-up sheet and Zoom will be sent via the alumni mailing list.
