Volunteer opportunities

Goddard MFA-W grads are invited to get involved with CWC and/or CLOCKHOUSE Journal. There are many ways to volunteer and at different levels of time commitment. We appreciate whatever help you can give with one or more of the tasks listed below.

Email [email protected] for more information about these opportunities.
Clockhouse Writers' Conference
  • Summer or winter conferences: help with online registration; help organize the schedule and workshop presenters. Busy times are May/June and Dec/Jan.
  • Social media: create graphics in Canva; write posts and manage CWC Instagram and Facebook accounts. Time commitment is about 1 hour a month or as much as you want.
  • Event calendar: keep calendar current and post events through easy-to-use online program. Time commitment is about 10 minutes a week.
  • Works-in-progress: email Zoom link and  reminders to participants. Time commitment is about 30 minutes every other month.
  • Newsletter: help write the Enews email in MailChimp (familiarity with graphic and/or email system helpful but not necessary). Time commitment is about 2-3 hours every six weeks or so.
CLOCKHOUSE Journal
  • Read submissions, no experience necessary: choose from poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, or drama. Don't think you aren’t qualified to judge others’ writing, you absolutely are. Submission period is September 1 - November 15, with judging after the New Year. Time commitment is about five hours a week during submission and judging periods.
  • Call for submissions: submit/update information to about seven online/print channels. Time commitment is about 2 hours total during lead-up to submission period.
  • Social media: create graphics in Canva; write posts and manage CLOCKHOUSE Instagram and Facebook accounts. Time commitment is about 1 hour a month or as much as you want.
  • Grant writer: research and apply for grants to help pay for journal production costs.

Future plans

We have many ideas to involve more people in CWC activities when we have more volunteers, such as:
  • Let Goddard MFA-W grads submit paid events for our calendar (charge a fee).
  • Host online networking events.
  • Hold regional events so people could gather in-person without traveling too far.
  • Online directory (password protected) so people could find/get in touch with each other. Note: this is dependent on a new CWC website.
  • Job board on website (charge a fee).
